Costly campaign, bad result: the PvdA election fund is empty

The PvdA election fund is empty. This is clear from the annual report of the Partij van de Arbeid, which analyzed [Het Financieele Dagblad] as well as the annual accounts of eight other political parties. These political parties are financially better off.

The Labor Party entered a financially difficult period through an expensive election campaign, with disappointing results: the party lost 29 seats after the House of Representatives in 2017. The revenues of a political party depend on in part the number of seats.

The equity of the PvdA has fallen to the lowest level for at least ten years, the newspaper writes. The party therefore has the worst financial position for the elections next year. The PvdA has recorded a loss of more than three quarters of a million euros in 2017, despite the fact that regional departments collect 200,000 euros.

The annual publication of annual financial reports has shown that the SP has millions in cash. The PvdA saw its power shrink to the right .

Annual Accounts

The FD investigated the annual accounts of all parties with seats in the Lower House with the exception of PVV, DENK and 50PLUS. The CDA also has the lowest equity in ten years, but it is gaining more profits thanks to the profits of the seats – the party won six seats.

Other parties have had better elections. Membership has increased and costs have been reduced. The parties spent less money for the campaign than in previous parliamentary elections: an additional € 15.5 million was spent in 2010. This amount dropped to € 9.7 million. in previous elections, writes the newspaper. This is one of the reasons why the campaign reserves for most parties this year are higher than before.

The political parties had a good financial year: the nine parties examined together had a deficit of 595,000 euros. That's less than the loss of 3.8 million euros that has been budgeted.
