The Mayor of Waddinxveen expressed his sympathy via Twitter to the family of the girl who drowned yesterday. The child was 4 years old.
"What a profound and intensely sad message, our sympathy goes to this family and to everyone around them," writes Evertjan Nieuwenhuis.
Tuesday evening around 8:30 pm, the emergency services received information that a girl had been found in the water near Vondellaan. She was taken water by a woman and then she was resuscitated, but help came too late.

How it ended in the water is not clear. The police are investigating what happened.
