ANWB: Many caravans are overloaded

Vacationers often travel with an overloaded caravan, ANWB concludes. During the annual check of the holidays at the Belgian border Hazeldonk, it turned out that more than half of the weighted caravans weighed far too heavy on Saturday.

Security Requirements

On the A2 near Elsloo (Limburg), the police removed dozens of caravans, campers and tents-trailers from vacationers to see if they met the security requirements. More than eighty drivers heading south have left their car with a trailer checked by roadside assistance and ANWB caravan experts. Half of the caravans proved to be too heavy. The check also showed that a number of trailer tires were old and worn out, so they had to be replaced immediately to avoid danger and bad luck. For the rest of the vacationers, everything was fine so that they could continue their trip to the south.

Among other things, they checked the lights, the brakes, the load, the rearview mirror, the tow bar and the tire profile.
