Continues the Benelux from now on without any hassle Interior

On behalf of the Netherlands, Minister Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) signs today in Brussels an extension of the Benelux Treaty which regulates police cooperation. The original dates from 2004, but the upgrade still allows more intensive collaboration.

This will create more opportunities to work together across borders and a better exchange of information must take place. It is considered a big step in the fight against organized crime, which took root mainly in the border region.

In practice, there was a great need for more extensive powers to prosecute criminals on the other side of the border. means that prosecution by the Dutch police may continue in Belgium or Luxembourg until the identity of the suspects has been established.

The transfer of suspects is also simplified. There are now heavy proceedings based on a European arrest warrant or an extradition request

The hearing of a Dutch suspect in the hands of the Belgian justice can be performed by a Dutch detective, although this always happens in the presence of an investigator from the host country.
