Asbestos released in the Rotterdam subway is not dangerous

The asbestos that was released Tuesday at the Stadhuis metro station in Rotterdam is not dangerous for health. The proof is made by air samples analyzed after the release of asbestos during construction work, reported the transport company RET, Wednesday

. Asbestos was found Tuesday morning while the subway station was in use. RET was informed of the discovery around 13:30. The transport company then closed the station and asked travelers on their way to Stadhuis to report on that day. CEO Maurice Unk of RET said Wednesday:

"We are relieved to be able to bring this news.The safety of our passengers and our employees is paramount.That is why we did not want to take any chances and we have immediately closed the station as soon as the discovery of asbestos was known to us. "

Cleaning

After the discovery Tuesday, as a precaution, RET immediately cleaned the subway and replaced the filters. No asbestos were found on and in the vehicles.

The Stadhuis metro station will remain closed for the moment. This is because asbestos still needs to be removed. RET does not know when the work will be finished.
