New data: increased risk of heart problems
In recent times, 2 scientific studies have been published. Products containing quinine showed increased mortality. The risk of cardiac adverse events (including death) seemed to be greater with long-term use and in patients with certain cardiac arrhythmias or at increased risk. Since quinine and hydrokinin have similar effects on the body, it is likely that hydrokinin also presents a risk of cardiac arrhythmia
1 in every 100 patients dies
. For one year, products containing quinine consume at least one additional patient if they did not use a product containing quinine
Only by prescription
Due to this new information, the MEB decided to change the Inhibin dispensing status from "pharmacy only" to "recipe exclusively". People with cardiac arrhythmia should be particularly careful. As is now prescribed to patients with Inhibin Prescription, they can best be monitored to detect cardiac arrhythmia or increased risk.
