Police investigate suspect for murder of four people in Enschede

Police arrested a suspect for involvement in Tuesday's quadruple murder in Enschede. The arrest took place on Tuesday night, but police only reported it on Thursday.

Officers took the suspect, a 26-year-old man from Enschede, near Dordrecht. On Friday, he is decided he should appear with the investigating judge. Another man who was arrested on Tuesday is free again. He's no longer a suspect.

Tuesday, after a report, the police found two bodies in the building of a Enschese culture store. Elsewhere in the building, two bodies appeared to be lying down. It was obvious that all had been forcibly killed – probably four of them, aged 27 to 62, were shot dead.

Known to the police

Two of the victims turned out to be police acquaintances. They were arrested in June after the discovery of a hemp farm, in the building where the killing of four people took place.

The regional media RTV Oost and Tubantia reported on Thursday that one of the victims was a salesman who happened to be at the scene of the murder. The 62-year-old man would have acted with fertilizers and would have come to place an order at the culture store. The locals call it "brutal misfortune": the man was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The police did not want to confirm or deny the story before NRC .
