A new political movement wants to transform democracy

A new political movement against political parties and for a better democracy. That's how Code Oranje showed up Thursday at the Dudok café in The Hague. Acting Mayor Bert Blase van Heerhugowaard, who denounces his membership in the PvdA, said that "the era of political parties is about to expire". The movement wants to participate in provincial elections in three provinces in March and later in parliamentary elections. According to Blase, the name of the code Oranje rightly refers to the association with "violent weather". According to him, the politics of The Hague is too "folded in on itself" and we no longer trust politicians. The Oranje code worries about the growing number of people who do not vote or more "without fear" for parties such as the PVV and the Forum for Democracy. The orange code wants to treat differently. The movement wants to consult people permanently through citizen juries and online forums. The new movement has no position yet: Code Orange wants to know first what citizens find important. (NRC)
