In the Netherlands, about ten thousand scans are performed each year in children. The increased risk boils down to an additional brain tumor a year, writes from Volkskrant on Wednesday. The researchers conclude this with a study of more than 168,000 Dutch children who underwent scans between 1979 and 2012.
The study is part of a larger European survey among a million people. children from eight European countries. The purpose of the study is to examine whether x-rays from CT scans involve certain risks. According to of Volkskrant these scans are used more often, which is accompanied by questions about their possible consequences.
The Dutch part of the research appears Wednesday in the scientific journal Journal of the National Cancer Institute
