Hundreds of people gathered Sunday at the Amsterdam Museumplein to protest the closure of bankrupt hospitals. This concerns the MC Slotervaart and MC IJsselmeer hospitals, which have recently been declared bankrupt. "We rejoiced, it went well and quietly," said Ches Rijpkema, organizer of the event. The main objective of the protest campaign is, according to him, better care in the Netherlands. "It is neither possible nor allowed for hospitals to go bankrupt in the Netherlands."

The people involved explained why it was important for them to keep the hospitals open, while protesters carrying banners with texts like "Het Slotervaart must stay!"

In late October, it was announced that hospitals would close after the bankruptcy of both hospitals. First, a number of employees had the intention to resume the Slotervaart. However, the judge ruled that bankruptcy would not be overturned. Now, there would be dozens of interested people who would like to make a fresh start with the hospital. Rijpkema still hopes that Slotervaart will make a fresh start. "There are dozens of candidates who want to take over. We're waiting for it." –
