Experienced diplomat Koen Davidse becomes the new Dutch administrator at the World Bank, reports the Finance Ministry on Friday. He succeeds Frank Heemskerk in November, who held this position since April 2013. Davidse is still the deputy head of the UN Mission in Mali and is appointed for four years.
Previously, there was a leak that the former Foreign Minister Halbe Zijlstra had applied. Prime Minister Mark Rutte would have put it forward for this prestigious work. His appointment was wrong within the firm because he would not have the necessary financial expertise. Finally, Zijlstra decided to retire and take a job in the business world. Zijlstra resigned from his ministerial post in February after a lie about his presence in Putin's dacha.
"Format Candidate"
In a statement, Minister Wopke Hoekstra (Finance, CDA) and Minister Sigrid Kaag (Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, D66) write that Davidse is a "big candidate".
"He knows both the World Bank and the countries where the bank makes an important contribution to the fight against poverty and shared prosperity"
Davidse worked for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bank World. sent for the Netherlands to Sudan. As a director of the World Bank, Davidse is also a board member of twelve other countries, including Ukraine, Israel, and Romania. The Washington Bank provides loans, loans, guarantees and technical assistance to developing countries.
It is striking that the Council of Ministers does not opt for another former civil servant. Frans Weekers, former VVD Secretary of State for Finance, and Bert Koenders, former PvdA Foreign Minister, would have been interested in the post.
