Serbian lawyer Dragoslav Ognjanovic (57) was shot dead near his apartment in Belgrade on Saturday. His son was injured in the arm, reports Reuters news agency based on the police and the Interior Ministry. Ognjanovic assisted Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic at the Yugoslav Tribunal in The Hague.
Who is behind the attack and what is the motive, is not known. According to the police, the murder has nothing to do with his status as a former Milosevic defender.
Ognjanovic defended Milosevic in the trial before the Yugoslav Tribunal. Milosevic was President of Serbia during the Balkan War and was on trial for crimes against humanity, genocide and ethnic cleansing in the 1990s.

Even before being convicted, Milosevic died on March 14, 2006 in his cell of a heart attack. The case has therefore been stopped.
Ognjanovic helped many prominent members of the Serbian underworld. In the past two years, several criminal gang figures have been murdered in Belgrade. According to the police, it's a gang war that deals with drug trafficking.
