Jozef Verhoeven is certain: the fire of his company at the Jagersweg in Haelen was lit in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. "It burned in five places and the jerricans are still there, they sprinkled everything and all ignited," says the owner of the metal recycling business.
"I am happy that there has been no personal accident, but whoever does such a thing must be sick in his head." He has no idea who the authors are. "I hope the police will know it soon."
Escape
Verhoeven was called at half past three in the evening by the alarm center connected to his security system. "They saw on the camera images showing that the ground was on fire and saw men running," he says. "We immediately came."
Self-extinguishing
Verhoeven himself extinguished the fire in the office. Due to the fire, two sorting cranes, a truck, a normal car and a container caught fire. After an hour, the fire department had everything under control, but there was a lot of smoke and water damage.
"I hope we can do something with the camera images, which are in any case safe," says Verhoeven.
