Among general practitioners, the extent to which opioids are prescribed increases slightly. This is the conclusion of the Nivel Research Office, which examined the prescription of these painkillers over the years 2013-2017. In particular, strong opioid prescriptions such as oxycodone and morphine are prescribed more often.
In 2013, 5.6% of all male prescriptions for opioids were 7.7% in 2017, an increase of more than two percentage points. In those years, a prescription of drugs was issued for about one third of contacts to a general practitioner. This share, according to Nivel, remained about the same during this period
. Nivel finds that the number of recipes for low tramadol has remained virtually the same, but that the number of prescriptions for morphine and oxycodone has increased slightly. The three drugs were mainly prescribed for musculoskeletal disorders. Morphine has also been used for disorders of the digestive organs and the urinary tract.
