"It's a night, a night by car," says a boy at T.T. Vassumweg in North Amsterdam. The right road is the scene of illegal street racing for hours. Until the arrival of the police. The agents do not go out, but invite the runners to leave. They do that. Moments later, the roaring engines sound a few kilometers from Amsterdam-Noord
. They look like pictures from an American movie, which Omroep Gelderland shows many runners specially came from Nijmegen for the races. Cars and motorcycles that install on smooth asphalt and start running at high speed, leaving behind a layer of rubber and black tire tracks. Two hundred to two hundred and fifty cars and motorcycles. Hundreds of spectators along the way. And that for half a night.
A draw
"Youth between them," says one of the other boys, who also does not give his name. "Like all the other kids, we're sprinting." They have no message that on-site a top speed of 50 km / h, on the dangers that you do not hear them at all.
And the police? "It's always a gamble, a game: taking risks is a must," says the street racer. "Usually they stand between the two and they can not do as much, we have too many."

Then a police car arrives, at high speed, to the flashing light. The agents stop but only open their windows. Polite, they ask the boys to leave. They respond to this request. But a few kilometers further, the races continue until the first light of dawn.
Police spokesman Frans Zuiderhoek confirms that his colleagues were "on the spot" tonight and no one was arrested. "When you arrive, everyone is standing, arms crossed and nothing is wrong, the only thing you see, that is a lot of cars and tire tracks, to go home," said the spokesperson.
Zuiderhoek also knows that races often go on elsewhere. "But," he sighs, "do you have to stay behind them all the time to see if they're going to do it again?"
