Temporary Road

This is the temporary road that was recently built for traffic on the West Road towards Drachten. In the vicinity of the Oude Winschoterdiep, the joints melt and leave loose layers of asphalt. The traffic had a serious nuisance from five o'clock this afternoon.

Earlier in the evening, the part of the road between Euvelgunne junction (A7 / East ring road) and Europaplein was already closed. This has been done to get as much temporary road traffic as possible.

Fear of traffic infarction [19659006] The city road (Europaweg) to Julianaplein remained open for as long as possible due to the rush hour. There were fears that at the closing of this road all the traffic in and around the city of Groningen would be stopped. By delaying closure until the evening rush hour, such a traffic accident was prevented.

According to a spokesman for the Approach Ring Zuid project organization, which is organizing the construction of the new ring road, the joints have melted. This would have nothing to do with the enlargement of the steel structure where the temporary road was built over the canal.

This afternoon, users in Groningen had to cope with a partial obstruction of the eastern ring road. Because of the heat, the Driebondsbrug on the Ems canal came out and, as a precaution, the gates of the bridge were cut off. Motorists returned to the road and drove down the ramp to Damsterdiep. It also involved traffic to Julianaplein.
