"Little knowledge about painkillers" – inside – LC.nl

Chronic patients often use many painkillers without knowing enough. As a result, they run the risk of unsightly side effects. This emerges from the pain survey conducted by the Centraal Drogisterijbedrijven Bureau (CBD), an institute responsible for the use of drugs (IVM). The study was conducted among six hundred people with chronic diseases.

Half of the respondents simply buy painkillers at the pharmacy. 40% of respondents do not know, however, that painkillers can have serious side effects, according to the IVI. Three-quarters think it is important for experts to be present at the pharmacy to give advice on proper use.

The researchers were also concerned about the withdrawal of paracetamol at 1000 mg from the insurance kit. Although the price of a box generally fluctuates around two euros, more than one quarter would require another compensated product to the doctor. "If the doctor agrees, the heavier and riskier painkillers will increase," says the CBD.
