Wachtebeke / Zelzate –
Due to Newcastle disease in poultry, some measures also apply in the Puyenbroeck Police Zone. These are valid for one month.

Last Friday, the federal food agency took temporary measures to stop the spread of Newcastle disease. It is a highly contagious viral disease – the symptoms are similar to those of bird flu – which is caused by a virus of which there are different strains. The symptoms are, depending on the strain, respiratory problems, digestive disorders, loss of appetite, drowsiness, a decrease in the leg. There is no danger to humans, so the consumption of eggs, poultry meat and products is no problem.

"Current measures to control the disease mean that the amateur farmer can not transfer poultry, he can not sell, give or trade chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, ducks, geese, pigeons etc., "says the Puyenbroeck local police zone Facebook page, and there is also a ban on participating in markets, exhibitions, fairs, prize pools, etc.

The measures are valid until the end of July and are in force on any unprofessional holder of one or more poultry. For example, people who keep this in the garden to compost their green waste and at the same time enjoy a fresh egg.

More information on the disease can be found on the website of the Federal Food Agency.
