Police found a huge batch of illegal fireworks in a shed in Vijfhuizen. In total, there were 10,000 kilos, which were discovered after an anonymous denunciation.
Four people from Haarlem were arrested between the ages of 25 and 45. Police search four houses in Haarlem. Two trucks were needed to remove the illegal fireworks.
Security Guards
Police have been discussing for years the transportation and storage of illegal fireworks. The agents find it too dangerous to move. There is also only one storage place for the heaviest fireworks.
This week, it was announced that police would use security guards to keep the fireworks confiscated until a carrier recovers them. The costs of private security are the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice and Security. It's probably a few tons.
Large lot
It is not common that 10,000 pounds are found at a time. For example, a total of just over 40,000 kilograms of illegal fireworks were seized in 2017. The previous year, it amounted to just under 30,000 kilograms.
Each year, the police record the number of illegal fireworks confiscated in the barometer. The last known figure for 2018 is 13,874 kilos. The taking today is not yet included.
