It may take weeks before the inhabitants of the house and the Heycop care center in Breukelen can return home. This happened tonight at a meeting for the affected elderly and their relatives in Nyenrode.
Mayor Witteman of the Stichtse Vecht municipality told RTV Utrecht that it was an emotionally charged evening. "The news that it will take time was difficult," he says. "It's also difficult to see residents who have their pajamas on the last night, while we are now at 24 hours, they have really experienced a shocking event."
Major Damages
Lots of Work is done Restore the apartments, but the damage of smoke and soot are considerable. Fire safety facilities are also down and stairwells are poorly accessible. "It takes a long time to recover," says Witteman. "In the meantime, we want to do everything we can to accommodate the residents as best as possible."
Residents were surprised by a big fire last night, which arose in a sheltered home on the first floor. Emergency services have a lot of equipment. The first investigation showed that the fire was not lit.
Eleven of the inhabitants of Heycop were transported to hospital with injuries. In the meantime, nine of the victims were fired.
