The neurological form of rhinopneunomy was observed at one location in the municipality of Hardenberg. In the meantime, one horse has been euthanized, two others with stable symptoms.

Direct Environmental Information

Horses in the affected barn will not be allowed to leave the premises in the next few weeks. Horses from outside are not allowed. The nearby horse accommodation and barn contacts have been informed of the situation. The animals are checked daily by a veterinarian.

Rhinopneumonia (EHV1)

The Animal Health Service (GD) confirmed, after research, that it was about rhinopneumonia (EHV1), a viral infection that may manifest itself by form of cold symptoms, abortion and / or neurological symptoms

Rhinopneumonia is a common disease in Europe. An important preventative measure is to prevent an infected horse from having direct contact with other horses. The contamination of horses is through the respiratory tract. In addition, the virus can also be transmitted through clothing and hands. Vaccination helps reduce the pressure of infection in the horse population, but does not directly protect against neurological form

Separation of various groups of horses (young horses, pregnant mares and sport horses) reduces risks of spreading the virus. If you think your horses have rhinopneumonia, it is necessary to consult a veterinarian.
