Rotterdam will install between 1,500 and 3,000 rental properties ready for use in the city. Last night, City Council passed a PvdA motion on this issue.

Prefabricated apartments with a rent of around 600 euros must ease the pressure on the housing market. PvdA hopes that housing will benefit singles, beginners, teachers and police.

The apartments must be in places that have already been designated for housing, but have not yet been developed. Next year, the first temporary houses will have to be installed. They can stay up to ten years

in Amsterdam and Leiden, there are already such residential complexes. They are usually built and rented by housing companies.

Priority to other housing hunters

In Council, a PS motion was also passed to give speakers an emergency statement when they seek accommodation in Rotterdam. With such a statement, they take precedence over other house hunters.

Council also approved a motion to encourage seniors to move more quickly to a smaller home.
