Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture) wants to experiment with a "mild form" of genetic modification. In collaboration with companies, farmers and the University of Wageningen, she is studying the possibilities of experimenting with the so-called CRISPR-CAS method. That's what Schouten says in an interview with De Volkskrant. In the coming weeks, the Minister will send a letter to the Lower House to inform him of the progress of the CRISPR-CAS procedure.

,, For CRISPR-CAS, I would like to have an experimental space. There is almost no more because in July the European Court of Justice ruled that this light method should be subject to strict rules of genetic modification. "It is unfortunate that this door has been closed in Europe."

CRISPR-CAS improves cultures by eliminating the weaknesses of DNA. In classic crossbreeding, crossbreeding often takes years to achieve the desired change. Unlike genetic modification, this method does not involve mixing with DNA from other species
