A sudden increase in the number of pertussis cases has been observed in the village of Barneveld. In consultation with the RIVM and the municipality, the GGD therefore takes a number of measures.

Parents of young children (up to one year old) in Barneveld receive additional information about the possibilities of vaccinating their children against whooping cough. General Practitioners, Obstetricians and Gynecologists Can Also Offer Vaccination to Pregnant Women

Pertussis is a contagious respiratory disease, which particularly affects unvaccinated young children (up to one year) with risks .

Barneveld is Biblebelt, where people for religious reasons do not vaccinate their children relatively often. The percentage of people vaccinated is about 70%, much lower than the Dutch average
