A total of 37 municipalities participate in the formation of twelve new municipalities.
The biggest change takes place in the new municipality of Vijfheeren in Utrecht. It consists of the municipality of Utrecht Vianen and the municipalities of Zuid-Holland of Leerdam and Zederik. For example, the province of Utrecht is slightly larger and the province of South Holland somewhat smaller.
The merger of Haren near Groningen has been widely discussed in the Senate. The people of Haren were opposed to the merger during a vote. Yet 49 senators voted for, 25 opposed the merger.
In addition to Haren, Ten Boer was also attached to Groningen, but there was no discussion about it
. Outside Haren, the mergers did not cause much discussion in the Senate. All proposals have been accepted.
It will be the new municipalities
- Groningen, Haren and Ten Boer become the municipality of Groningen
- Leerdam, Vianen and Zederik become the new municipality Vijfheerenlanden
- Dongeradeel, Ferwerderadiel and Kollumerland and Nieuwkruisland become the new municipality Noardeast -Fryslân
- Binnenmaas, Cromstrijen, Korendijk, Oud-Beijerland and Strijen become the Zuid-Hollandse Hoeksche Waard
- Grootegast, Leek, Marum, Zuidhorn and part of the Winsum commune become the municipality of Groningen Westerkwartier
- Bedum , Marne, Eemsmond and the rest of Winsum become the municipality of Groningen Het Hogeland
- Geldermalsen, Lingewaal and Neerijnen become the municipality of Gelderland West Betuwe
- The municipality of Noordwijkerhout is attached to the municipality of Noordwijk in South Holland
- Het Zuid -Holland Giesselande and Molenwaard continue as common Molenwaard [19659008] Haarlemmerliede and Spaarnwoude and Haarlemmermeer become the North Holland Haarlemmermeer
- Nuth, Onderbanken and Schinnen become the Limburg municipality Beekdaelen
