Tuberculosis in Leiden is no exception to the rule

November 15, 2018

LEIDEN – In Leiden and its surroundings, about 30 people contract tuberculosis each year, some of which are contagious. That said a spokesman for GGD Hollands Midden against media partner Omroep West. It was announced Tuesday that a student of MBO Rijnland was infected with the disease. The student would have the contagious and open form of tuberculosis.

In the Netherlands, 800 people a year have a tuber, said GGD spokesman Hollands Midden. About a third of them have the infectious form. The disease is therefore present everywhere in the Netherlands in 1 in 17,000 people.

The symptoms of tuberculosis are general symptoms that can also occur in many other diseases. As a result, the disease is often difficult to recognize. The most common symptoms in the early stages of TB are night sweats, fatigue, fever, loss of appetite, and weight loss. People with pulmonary tuberculosis usually suffer from cough for longer (more than three weeks) and sometimes mucus (bloody).

We do not know how the student is doing
What about the student in the hospital? Bètaplein, school does not mean for reasons of confidentiality. It is also unknown whether it is a boy or a girl and in which class the student is sitting.
