VMBO President Maastricht progresses

A few months after the debacle of VMBO Maastricht, the president resigned. André Postema was chairman of the board of directors of the Foundation for Secondary Education of Limburg (LVO). His position has been under pressure for some time.

Liability

At the request of the Supervisory Board, Postema resigned immediately. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Jan Schrijen, also resigns immediately

In October, Postema's contract was extended for two years and parliamentary questions were postponed. The Supervisory Board has extended the contract, but will return to it now.

"André Postema, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, wishing to report his resignation, wants to report on what is wrong with VMBO Maastricht," the statement said. "The competent authority of LVO bears the responsibility and assumes responsibility for it."

Illegal

Postema still works on education inspection. He felt that the decision of the education inspectorate to reject the 353 final exams was "illegal". Some of the students were successful, while others had to make up only 1.25 tests to earn a degree.

"In a few weeks, more than 90% of the students in the final exam passed, which is also a good score in a comparative perspective," writes Postema Monday in a statement posted on his Facebook page. "This contrasts sharply with the communication from the Inspectorate and the Minister of Education that there were" thousands of gaps "and that most students had to take into account the fact that they should do all year. "

In June, VMBO Maastricht hit the headlines because of major problems with final exams. In June, the inspectorate passed the final examinations of 353 students, as the school had made mistakes when taking the tests. In recent months, so-called recovery tests have been carried out, most of them having succeeded and continuing their studies.
