Wildlands in Emmen was to become the theme park in the north of the Netherlands, but that is not going very well so far. The animal adventure park is suffering a loss of 8 million euros this year.
With its new spacious zoo, the old and familiar Noorder Dierenpark was abandoned in the city. The brand new and expensive park opened in March 2016. Two and a half years later, however, there are cuts.

Zoo Adventure
The wild lands were to become a so-called "adventure zoo"; a sort of mix between a zoo and a theme park with roller coasters and a water course. A considerable amount of 489 million euros has been spent on the ambitious "travel experience in the world". Entrance fees also rose sharply, but visitors stayed away. For Wildlands, the message is clear: it must become a "normal zoo".
From the beginning, the park has struggled to find a disappointing number of visitors and to change the critics. A disappointed visitor calls the Zoover Park "zoo without animals". The educational elements, for which the park was previously known, also had to clear the ground, he said.

Future
According to the park, the lack of clarity of identity is the main cause of the disappointing figures. . Animals, which are still an important element of a zoo, would be, according to many visitors, difficult to admire in the large park. Wildland wants animals to become more visible in the future and fill in empty spaces with new homes for "attractive animals".
Costs are also reduced. For example, five to fifteen people will have to look for another job and the park will be "organized more efficiently" with a "clear positioning for an appropriate price". Despite the setbacks, confidence in the future remains intact.
The zoo wants to make the visit more attractive by organizing brainstorming sessions with local entrepreneurs and a special children's council is set up. Whatever the projects, animal welfare is always essential.
