The prediction made by the director, Dr Rochelle Walensky, contradicts the previous claim by the Trump administration that the vaccine would be widely available by the end of February or the beginning of March. According to Walensky via the Today show, this does not happen. Currently, the Biden administration is dedicated to the goal of dispensing 100 million doses within the first 100 days.
“I don’t think by the end of February we’ll have the vaccine in every pharmacy in this country,” Walensky said. “We’re going to stick with this plan, but we also want to be very aware that after 100 days there are still a lot of Americans who need a vaccine, so we have our metal pedal to us. make sure we can get that many vaccines. “
State stocks have been low since the Trump administration lied about its plan to keep second doses in reserve. In the United States, more than 16 million people have received the first dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and nearly 3 million have been fully immunized.
“We recognize this as the most immediate emergency to get this country back to health,” Walensky said. “Right now I think we still have vaccines on the shelves that we need to get into people, so we are deploying places where we can get them into people … We are looking for centers of community vaccination, stadiums and gymnasiums. We are looking at mobile units to really get to every corner of the country, health care centers and federally licensed pharmacies. “
The new administration is also trying to combat the reluctance that many still have to receive the vaccine.
“The reluctance to vaccines comes in many different flavors, I will say,” she said. “Some people really need it to be practical. Some people need to be allowed to take the time to get the vaccine or have enough leeway to take a day off if they don’t feel well the next day. they just want to see how it goes. It’s possible that a third vaccine from Johnson & Johnson, which only requires one vaccine, will soon be submitted to the FDA for approval and could help the United States speed up vaccine production. Until then, it looks like we’ll stay inside and outrun a bit longer.
