As the number of COVID-19 cases has increased in recent weeks, the need for testing has also increased.
To meet this need, a drive-thru test site will operate in Israel’s Warren State Hospital building from tomorrow until the middle of next month.
Warren County Director of Public Safety Ken McCorrison said the site will operate from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday this week and then Monday through Friday in subsequent weeks.
“The county has received a request from Warren General Hospital for some support with the tests,” he said, explaining that WGH had seen a sharp increase in the number of people seeking tests that were not showing symptoms.
McCorrison said the county is limited in what it can do because it is not a health care agency. As a result, AMI Expeditionary Healthcare – which has the staff, infrastructure and state funding to perform the tests, McCorrison said – will operate the site.
There will be no charge and AMI can process approximately 200 tests per day.
McCorrison said no appointment was necessary and anyone wishing to get tested is directed to the N. State St. entrance of the public hospital adjacent to the Israel building. All traffic to the site will come in and go out from this point.
People should not use Rt. 62 to enter the public hospital compound directly to get to the test site.
“I think the best thing we can do is make this as unintrusive as possible for the public hospital,” he added. he said.
He explained that testing at the site will quickly stop at 3 p.m., as samples will need to be taken to the company’s lab before business closes. Results from this system currently take between 24 and 48 hours.

McCorrison warned people should not call the courthouse, 911 center or state hospital for results or updates on the tests. He said the county’s role is to facilitate the use of facilities and logistical assistance. The public hospital provides the location. None of these entities will have information on specific tests.
It will not be AMI’s first experience at this location. A public test site took place at the Israel building in December.
