New drive-thru COVID testing site opens Sunday at Spokane Arena

SPOKANE, Wash – As cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in Spokane County, CHAS Health is preparing to operate a new drive-thru test site at Spokane Arena.

The plan has been in the works for a few weeks.

Right now, Spokane is averaging around 300 new cases per day. Health experts predict that number could rise further in the weeks following the Thanksgiving holiday.

Spokane County had a large test site at the start of the pandemic at the Spokane County Fairgrounds. It closed in June.

CHAS’s centralized testing site opens on Sunday and will provide testing to people who show symptoms of COVID or have been directly exposed to COVID. Testing will also be provided to nursing home employees.

“As demand for testing increases due to rising COVID rates in the region, patients need to be prepared for longer than usual wait times at testing locations,” CHAS said in a press release Friday. “The staff will be working as quickly as possible, but wait times can be as long as 2 to 3 hours depending on the day or time.”

Those wishing to be tested at the centralized testing center in Spokane Arena can inform CHAS Health of their expected arrival time and begin their online registration process before leaving their home. This will help the registration when they arrive at the arena to go faster.

Test results can be expected between one and three days after the test.

The arena site will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
