New goddess Smite Cliodhna revealed

The next character to join the popular MOBA Smite roster will be Cliodhna, and she looks like a real scream. Literally. She is the queen of the banshees in Irish mythology.

Cliodhna was announced on Twitter, alongside a short cinematic trailer. It shows the Queen approaching a distraught man who runs away in fear when his ghostly form is revealed. However, running doesn’t help, as the ghostly goddess breaks through the walls of her house before unleashing her signature cry. That doesn’t do much to explain how her powers will work when she becomes playable in Smite, but the accompanying tweet says “there’s nowhere to run” and “nowhere to hide” from she. The trailer clearly shows this.

We’ll learn more about Cliodhna soon, however. The tweet asks fans to tune in to the Smite Twitch channel on Wednesday, September 29 at 3 p.m. ET / noon PT for more information. So expect more details, as well as a possible release date for Cliodhna. The trailer ends with a general “October” release window, but that still leaves it with 31 possible days to kick off during the Scary Season.

Cliodhna joins an ever-growing list of mythological Smite characters from around the world. Recently, Greek goddesses Charybdis were added to MOBA, and King Arthur’s witch foil Morgan Le Fay joined before that. Cliodhna is also not the first to portray Irish myth – the bear goddess Artio, the warrior Cu Chulainn and others have already joined the fight. The Queen of Banshees will certainly be followed by even more legendary heroes.
