LIMA – Lima City Council agreed Monday evening to designate the Callahan Building at 113-115 East Spring as a historic structure.
The Callahan Building is part of Heaphy Harmony’s proposed redevelopment project in Spring and Main Streets and complies with the Historic Preservation Ordinance of the City of Lima, the council decided.
The City of Lima Historic Preservation Council met on September 9 to consider the building’s nomination and, after discussion, members voted to recommend approval to the Lima Council.
“This historic designation will allow it to claim historic tax credits from the state to fund the redevelopment of the building,” said Susan Crotty, director of the city’s community development department. “This is part of a larger development in Spring and Main that will involve a number of commercial type businesses and restaurants in this area. “
In other cases:
• Lima Police Major Ronald W. Hollman presented to the Lima Council a list of all the companies that have a license to sell alcohol in the city of Lima and the number of police calls for these establishments during for the past six months.
Walmart in Allentown Road received the highest number of service calls – 121. The second highest was Fuel Stop on Findlay Road with 115 service calls.
“The vast majority of them had not exceeded our threshold for the number of calls that we, the city, reported for a potential objection to their liquor license. It may surprise some people that Walmart has had the most calls, but theft is the culprit. Marko’s Sports and Spirits got a number of calls (57)… but didn’t hit the threshold either and that was the only bar that was close, ”Hollman said.
The case was referred to the city council’s security services committee.
• The Council authorized the auditor and clerk of the Lima Municipal Court to make an account adjustment and payment from the city to the clerk to balance the clerk’s accounts following the theft of a former deputy clerk. The Council approved a law authorizing the removal of $ 78,468 of adjustment in Civica CMI records from the clerk’s office and authorizing the auditor of the city of Lima to make a payment of $ 75,147 to the Municipal Court of Lima to cover the bank account deficit of the emergency account.
• Council introduced a resolution commemorating the late Estella Cooper.
Cooper recently passed away and had been active in the community through the Lima School Board, Bradfield Community Center, Lima Family YMCA and other organizations.
