New hospitalization record breaks set on Monday

RALEIGH, North Carolina (WITN) – North Carolina set a new record for COVID-19-related hospitalizations on Tuesday, breaking the one just established on Monday.

The State Department of Health and Human Services said 1,724 people were in hospital with the virus. As of Monday, that number stood at 1,601.

New cases also continue to climb in the state. DHHS said 3,100 new cases were reported on Tuesday, bringing the total to 342,294.

The death toll in the state from the virus now stands at 5,074.

Bertie County reported two new deaths on Tuesday, bringing the county total to 24. Just the day before the state changed the county’s COVID-19 alert status from orange to red.

Nash County also recorded two more deaths, while Gates and Northampton counties each reported one additional death.

A county in eastern Carolina confirmed two more deaths, as the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 set a new record in North Carolina on Monday.

On Monday afternoon, Greene County health officials said two more of their residents had died from the virus. The county now has 24 deaths and reported 19 new positive cases on Monday.

The State Department of Health and Human Services said there were 1,601 people in hospital with the virus, a jump of 30 since Sunday.

The DHHS said there were now 339,194 confirmed cases in the state, an increase of 2,419 from the previous day.

The death toll also rose to 5,039. These new deaths included one in Craven County and another in Halifax County.
