(Reuters) – A Jersey jury released Johnson & Johnson on Wednesday in a lawsuit brought by a man who alleged that asbestos in the company's talc products, including powder for baby, had caused her mesothelioma.

The jury unanimously rendered its verdict in the Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick, a few kilometers from J & J's headquarters, in the case of plaintiff Ricardo Rimondi.

J & J, which faces some 13,000 Talc-related lawsuits in the country, denies that talc is the cause of cancer, claiming that numerous studies and tests by regulators around the world have shown that its talc was safe and asbestos free.

In a month-long trial, Rimondi's lawyers told the jury that asbestos contaminated J & J talc products were the cause of human mesothelioma, a type of cancer related to asbestos exposure. The jury returned Wednesday its verdict in favor of the company after only half an hour of deliberations, according to a live stream of proceedings of Courtroom View Network.

In a statement, J & J said the jury's decision highlighted decades of clinical evidence and scientific studies by medical experts around the world on the safety of Johnson's Baby Powder.
