Local media reported that the strange structure was removed on Sunday evening, but it is not known who took it. Locals reported seeing “strange lights” in the area at the time, according to Jurnalfm.

The metal structure, which measured between 9.8 feet and 13.1 feet high, stood near the ancient Petrodava Fortress, the outlet said.

The Romanian monolith went viral shortly after the first monolith was found in a remote Utah desert.

The first strange structure, originally spotted in Utah, was also removed by an unknown party, the state’s Bureau of Land Management has confirmed.

During an on-site visit on Saturday, an office team said an unknown person or group removed the illegally installed structure known as the “monolith” on the evening of November 27.

Estimated to be between 10 feet and 12 feet tall and believed to be some kind of metal, it was discovered by state wildlife workers while counting sheep from a helicopter. The structure has drawn comparisons to a similar-looking slab in Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

Police will not open a major investigation into the disappearance of the mysterious silver monolith. Its creator also remains a mystery.

It drew crowds after the monolith was spotted on November 18 by crews of state helicopters helping wildlife biologists count bighorn sheep.

Utah officials did not specify where the monolith was located, but people quickly found it using satellite imagery from 2016 and determined its GPS coordinates.
