Angelle Mosley’s family hope her groundbreaking case and subsequent death from COVID-19 will still encourage vaccination.
A 33-year-old woman has died in New Orleans despite being vaccinated against COVID-19, a “revolutionary” case that her family hopes will remind Americans to continue wearing masks.
Angela Mosley told her mother and sister in July that she had tested positive for the delta variant of the coronavirus, but her mother told CBS News her health deteriorated rapidly because she was obese.
His mother, Tara Mosley, he was asked if doctors specifically told him that his daughter’s weight was a factor in her serious illness. “He did,” she said in response. “He did. He says she’s a great person. Her heart couldn’t pump like it should.
Obesity is one of the comorbidities that can put a person at risk for severe symptoms of COVID-19. Others include kidney and heart disease, as well as asthma and a history of cancer. The CDC recommends that people with comorbidities continue to wear masks and social distancing – in addition to the vaccination.
Dr. David Agus, who is a medical contributor to CBS News, commented on Angelle’s story, saying that while vaccines protect many people from severe cases of COVID-19, people who died from the virus despite vaccination had serious health problems under -jacent.
“It is very important for each person vaccinated to know if you have other health problems, the vaccine does not protect against those that become a problem or cause a problem,” Agus said. “Although vaccines can offer you some protection, unfortunately it is not enough to overcome medical problems or the lack of a very strong immune system.”
Angelle’s mother reiterated that she still recommends vaccination, even though people will use her daughter’s case as a reason not to.
“I will tell them anyway: ‘always get vaccinated because your weight has played a big role in it,” “she added.
Outside of Angelle’s business, Brave Beautique, which specializes in plus size women’s clothing, a memorial has been growing since her death on July 25.
Her mother pledged to keep the store open.
When asked what her daughter would like to hear her say in this time of mourning, she replied, “Keep running her things because it was her baby; it was his dream, ”Mosley replied. “I know she really wanted people to know that they are getting vaccinated, that they continue to mask themselves. You know, it’s very imperative that we continue to hide ourselves. “
More than 166 million Americans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of August 9, 2021, according to the CDC.
