New report reveals a bunch of promising specs for Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G

After months and months of conflicting reports, far-fetched rumors, and blatantly bogus leaks, the air is finally starting to clear around Google’s next 5G.

As the search giant itself has revealed, a ‘flagship’ Pixel 5 model is on the program this fall alongside a mid-range Pixel 4a 5G variant, and follows closely behind. The most compelling visual leak from the old device, an equally trusted source today shares a wealth of reliable information on both phones.

While Android Central cannot confirm all of the key features and specifications of the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G, but the information the post was able to get from “people familiar with upcoming Google phones” is enough to paint a general and relatively promising picture of their ambitions.

The Pixel 5 will have a 6-inch screen and a “considerably larger” battery than the Pixel 4

We know, we know you’ve heard so many numbers associated with the possible screen size of the 5G-capable Pixel 5 that you find it hard to trust one another. But this rumored 6.67 inch at 120 Hz always seemed … ridiculous, whereas 5.7 or 5.8 inch would have been too close to 4G LTE only Pixel 4a mid-ranger.
A 6 inch The Pixel 5, in turn, would reduce considerably more screen space than the 5.7-inch. The 5.81-inch Pixel 4 and Pixel 4a in a very similar body, which pretty much looks like the best of both worlds. In fact, Android Central claims the Pixel 5 has “roughly the same footprint as the 4a,” meaning its bezels will likely be even thinner than what OnLeaks rendered yesterday.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the Pixel 5 is its “considerably bigger” battery than the 2,800mAh Pixel 4. While we don’t have an exact number to share with you today, the recent 3,080mAh rumor is deemed “entirely false,” which almost gets us excited about this bad boy.
Unfortunately, the age-old Snapdragon 765 speculation is almost certainly true, which means Google is unlikely to release a full-fledged high-end smartphone this year. For what it’s worth, the Pixel 5 is supposed to pair that top midrange processor with a generous 8GB of RAM while still offering no less than 128GB of internal storage space. That’s an increase from 6GB of memory and a local 64GB digital storage room on the entry-level Pixel 4 $ 800 configuration, so if the price of $ 700 drops, the Pixel 5 is actually starting to look like a solid alternative to the OnePlus 8, LG Velvet or Motorola Edge.
The Pixel 5 is also expected to feature a conventional rear-mounted fingerprint scanner rather than a ‘modern’ on-screen biometric recognition option, as well as 15W wireless charging and wireless charging capabilities. inverted 5 W, and last but not least, a very mysterious dual camera system including an ultra wide angle secondary sensor instead of a telephoto lens.

Pixel 4a 5G will be bigger and cheaper

If you’re in love with both standard Android and big screens, we’ve got some bad news for you. It doesn’t look like Google is releasing an XL version of its “flagship” Pixel 5, although if that makes you feel better, the Pixel 4a 5G could be slightly smaller than last year’s Pixel 4 XL, measuring 6.2. inch display diagonal.

Sadly, we don’t know much else about this budget 5G handset, but at $ 499 we can expect some serious downgrades from the Pixel 5. And since both devices are pretty much guaranteed to share the same Snapdragon 765 SoC, we believe the downgrades will be focused on build quality, camera performance, display capabilities, and memory departments.

In other words, the Pixel 4a 5G will likely settle for the 60Hz screen refresh rate tech, as well as the same rear-facing shooter as its limited 4G LTE sibling, from a full plastic construction and a number of 6 GB RAM.

Google is generally expected to properly remove the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G September 30 before a pre-order begins on October 8, although if the “standard” Pixel 4a’s troubled history is any indication, those dates may not yet be set in stone.
