As the state’s flagship institution, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is committed to providing access to affordable and valuable education through numerous scholarship opportunities, including several new scholarships announced today specifically created for state students – the Distinguished Tennessean Scholarship, Orange and White Scholarship, and Tennessee Connect Scholarship. The new scholarships are designed to allow more students across the state to gain access to UT education.
“We have a connection with our state and with everyone in Tennessee,” Chancellor Donde Plowman said. “We don’t want finances to stop Tennessee students from getting a world-class education and finding out what it means to volunteer on the UT campus. We appreciate the support of our state and we are committed to supporting the citizens of our state. This is one way to do it. “

Access and affordability of higher education are two of the main challenges facing higher education, but UT plays an important role in providing Tennessee residents with access to affordable and valuable education by creating scholarship opportunities like those announced today.
“By increasing UT’s financial investment in the Tennesseans, we are proactively serving the next generation of volunteers in new and important ways that recognize and rewards what it really means to be A Flight,” said Kari Alldredge, vice-rector for enrollment management. “UT consistently produces graduates who are active in their communities – many of whom stay here in Tennessee – making a difference as teachers, nurses, engineers, business owners, farm leaders, and more.”
Increase in registrations and access not only benefits UT, but also strengthens the state of Tennessee by fueling economic growth and supporting statewide initiatives including Drive to 55.
“An educated workforce is an important part of supporting our state’s economic goals,” said Alldredge.
As an added benefit, UT Knoxville will also waive the application fee for state students who apply by September 17.
With over 360 majors and degree programs, students can study what they love on a campus filled with energy, tradition, and lots of orange.
