I watched First reformed last weekend, and I still do not know what to think. The film, which comes from Taxi driver Writer Paul Schrader describes Ethan Hawke as a minister who slowly begins to see the darkness in the world – global warming, capitalism, political indifference – and lets himself be carried away by the extremes that he had warned of. against once.
The film does a masterful job of twisting his minister from a silent and lost figure to a trained and obsessed man. It's real, and it's a great portrait of how a person could change his point of view so far and so intensely.
But like Taxi driverI do not know how much I like to look at a story that allows us to see how the heart of man (men in particular) twists. In a way, I do not care! Which makes it difficult for me to recommend it, even if the film is fascinating enough to let me think about it for days.
