New vaccination sites in Lake County include Lake Square Mall, Amazon warehouse

LAKE COUNTY, FL – The Lake Square Mall and an Amazon Distribution warehouse parking lot will house the Lake County Department of Health’s latest coronavirus vaccination sites, the agency said on Tuesday.

The new mall site will be operated by DOH in partnership with Lake County Emergency Management and will provide injections to frontline healthcare workers and Florida residents aged 65 and over.

To make an appointment, eligible people can call 866-201-6909 or 833-476-1031 for the hearing impaired. The Lake County County Council of Commissioners said Tuesday the county is now participating in the state-run vaccine nominating system, using that number.

Meetings begin at the new site inside the old Sears department store at 8 a.m. Wednesday. For the first week only, the first doses will be offered on the site without an appointment.

“We want to remind the public that our vaccination plan is long term,” the DOH said in a press release. “People who are unable to receive a vaccine in this first phase will have an opportunity as we continue and expand our efforts.

People must be able to show their Florida residency by providing ID or by bringing two other items, including housing documents or an invoice, showing that you live in Florida for more than 30 days per year.

On Tuesday, the Florida Department of Health in Lake County began administering second doses of the Moderna vaccine at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mount Dora. This site does not offer the first doses, only the booster for people who received their first Moderna vaccine at a vaccination site in Lake County.

Later today, the county DOH announced that second doses would be given to those who needed their Pfizer booster injection at an Amazon distribution site in Groveland. The site will also offer first doses in the morning but places in the afternoon will be reserved for those who need the booster.

“Drive and park for a vaccination, the afternoon space is reserved for second doses,” according to a press release.

Once the parking lot reaches capacity, the line will close to new traffic.

The Groveland site opens at 8 a.m. Wednesday at 7453 Republic Drive.

People who have already had their first photo in Lake County, both Pfizer and Moderna, will be contacted by the department for an appointment for their second photo.

According to the DOH vaccination report, Lake County administered more than 32,000 initial doses of the vaccine on Monday. More than 2,300 people in the county have completed their inoculations with the booster, according to the report.
