COLORADO SPRINGS, United States (KKTV) – Teva Pharmaceuticals is releasing a voluntary recall of certain Losartan potassium tablets. This medicine, used against high blood pressure in patients, has been the subject of many recalls in recent months.
In this case, the Food and Drug Administration said the company had discovered an impurity that could cause cancer in patients using the drug in the long run. However, Teva told the FDA that there are no reports of people falling ill. According to officials, the drug would have been sold exclusively to Golden State Medical Supply and distributed to military and mail order pharmacies.
On its website, the FDA explained to patients how to identify affected products. They were distributed in 30, 90 and 1,000 counting bottles and described as follows:
– Losartan Potassium Tablets, USP 25 mg, are pale green teardrop-shaped biconvex tablets, film-coated, with "LK 25" on one side and ">" on the other.
– Losartan potassium tablets, USP 100 mg, are oval-shaped, film-coated, dark green, biconvex tablets with "LK100" on one side and ">" on the other.
