North's dismissal ended several days of vicious internal fighting within the organization. General Manager Wayne LaPierre said earlier this week that North was trying to blackmail him to let him go.
North has also been at the center of a lawsuit brought by NRA lawyers against the group's longtime advertising agency, Ackerman McQueen, for seemingly unsuccessful promotional work. The lawsuit alleged that North had doubled his salary by taking a salary from the NRA and Ackerman McQueen at the same time and had not kept the sponsorship promises, claiming that the group had found no evidence of the existence of substantial sponsorship.
