“We don’t intend to change course at this point, but we will be constantly monitoring the data to see if any adjustments are needed,” he said.
De Blasio pointed to the hospitalization rate of 0.31 per 100,000 people.
“(It’s) a very low rate, and it has been low for the last few weeks,” he said.

The mayor reiterated that teachers and students will be required to wear masks when school starts in the fall, while other details, such as how the lunch will work, are still being worked out.
“We will expect everyone to wear a mask and then there are a variety of options on how to handle lunches, which we will determine as we get closer,” he said. “I understand when people say we want to know more, but the bottom line is that everyone goes back to school.”
Getting all the kids back to class has always been the goal, he said.
“I can tell you right away what it’s going to look like,” he said. “We’re going to keep the cleanup protocols in place, with some tweaking, because we’ve obviously learned a lot more about COVID. All this ventilation work, we’re going to keep it. The work that has been done, which was incredible, in terms of masks, we will keep that. And it worked. It worked when we didn’t vaccinate anyone. “

Health Commissioner Dr Dave Chokshi was asked on CNN about his level of concern about breakthrough infections, such as those seen in some Yankee players.
Dr Chokshi called them “quite rare” and pointed out that full vaccination gives “stronger protection against disease”.
