New York rats: officials can say that alcohol can solve the problem

These are the last weapons of the rat war, officials said in New York.

Rats are attracted to the bait by a machine and sent through a hatch directly into a pool containing an alcohol-based liquid.

It is one of the most infested rat cities in the United States, where rodents move in garbage and railroad and cause chaos for many residents.

How it works?

Indeed, it's a bucket that attracts the rats and then sends them to their death.

They are stunned by the liquid and "end up drowning," according to Anthony Giaquinto, president of Rat Trap, who imported the device.

The rodent dies in the bin which can hold up to 80 rat carcasses.

At a demonstration of the machine, sanitation workers opened the container, showing several dead rats floating in a green liquid.

During a month of trial in Brooklyn, 107 rodents were attracted and killed.

In July 2017, the city announced a $ 32 million program to eliminate thousands of rodents by installing rat-resistant bins.

And they also tested a liquid bait that could make the rats infertile.

According to OpenTheBooks – a nonprofit surveillance group, the number of reported rat sightings increased by nearly 38% to reach 17,353 last year.

This new solution has been described as "human and environmentally friendly" by Eric Adams, president of Brooklyn Borough.

He added that it would be deployed in some of the most infected districts of Brooklyn.
