New York Sheriffs Expand COVID Checkpoints for Out-of-State Visitors Before Thanksgiving

Americans looking to cross New York for vacations may face roadblocks.

In a statement Wednesday, the New York City Sheriff’s Department warned travelers of new checkpoints where runners would be tested for COVID-19.

This is part of new measures announced earlier this month, which require visitors to test negative for the coronavirus before and after arriving in the city.

New York City also requires out-of-city customers to complete travel forms when arriving at airports, train stations and bus stations.

“There will be vehicle checkpoints at major New York City bridges and crossings,” New York Sheriff Joseph Fucito said. “The sheriff will also drive to the sidewalk drop-off bus stops. Thus, buses from out of state arriving in New York, when they land at the sidewalk, they will be greeted by sheriff teams.

Those without proof of a negative COVID-19 test risk fines of up to $ 1,000. “High-risk” businesses are already closed in parts of the city with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio warning of new restrictions to come.
