shred, take drugs, shred

CLEARWATER, Fla .– The Clearwater Police Department and the City’s Recycling / Solid Waste Department will offer free shredding to residents of Clearwater. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 23 at the Countryside Mall, 27001 US Highway 19 N., closest to the intersection of US 19 and Countryside Boulevard south of Whole Foods.

Police and solid waste workers will collect and shred all documents that the residents of Clearwater no longer need. Shredding will be performed on site by a certified shredding company to protect valuable information that could otherwise be compromised.

Clearwater Police will also accept old, unused, or expired prescription drugs at the same time. This is part of a nationwide operating medicine cabinet that is performed twice a year. Taking the drug to the police for proper disposal is much safer than throwing it in the trash or flushing it down the toilet.

Both drop-off points are intended for residents of Clearwater and not for businesses. Needles and other types of hazardous materials will not be accepted. There is a limit of 10 boxes per vehicle for shredding.

Residents who have questions can call the Solid Waste Management Operations line at (727) 562-4920.
