GV COVID-19 campus data update
The GVSU community has had a cumulative total of 3,771 cases since August 1, 2020. The university’s update for this memoir is Thursday, October 1.

Tests and impact: GVSU’s own testing program has performed 97,888 tests in total since August 1, 2020, for a cumulative positivity rate of 1.37% compared to the last update last week. A total of 1,840 tests have been performed over the past seven days.
“GV surveillance” includes the programs administered by GV / Spectrum of randomized testing, regular testing of high-risk groups, and invitational testing of individuals connected to potential clusters. A calendar is available. “GV Total” includes surveillance tests as well as all symptomatic / exposure tests administered by Spectrum.
Vaccination: GVSU encourages all students, faculty and staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. All students, faculty and staff must be fully immunized by September 30, unless exempted or medical or religious postponement. According to the COVID-19 Data Dashboard, an 80% vaccination rate in the GVSU community is required to achieve herd immunity and minimal viral transmission.
Currently, about 77% of students report being fully immunized, while about 87% of faculty and staff report being fully immunized.
GV President touts success of Laker health and safety plan
In a letter to the community at Grand Valley State University, President Philomena Mantella said she was proud of Laker’s commitment to Laker’s fall 2020 health and safety plan, which focused on COVID-19 testing and vaccination at GVSU.
Mantella said that more than 90 percent of GVSU faculty and staff and nearly 87 percent of students comply with the vaccination policy, which means they are vaccinated, have religious or medical exemption. or a postponement.
Mantella said that GVSU’s positivity rate is significantly lower than that of surrounding communities. The GVSU positivity rate this week was 1.37%, while in Ottawa County it was 11% .1 and 12.6% in Kent County, according to covidactnew.org.
GV mourns the loss of the former president of the Grand Valley University Foundation
John Edison, former president of the Grand Valley University Foundation, died on September 30. Edison assumed the role of director of the GVU in 1970 and served as its president for four years.
Edison also established the Dean’s Advisory Board for Seidman College of Business, which still serves GVSU students and the community today.
Edison and his wife, Penny, have also supported GVSU students through several funds, scholarships and donations to the GVSU community.
President Mantella expressed his condolences to the Edison family, who said Edison’s legacy will continue through the impact he has had on the GVSU community.
