Lewes capital projects meeting set for August 25
The Lewes Capital Projects Committee will meet at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, at Town Hall and via Zoom. The group will discuss phase 25 of the street rehabilitation project, the parking lots at Otis Smith Park and Schley Avenue, the addition to the Margaret H. Rollins Community Center and a study of the space and interim improvements for the police station. Lewes Public Art Committee to Meet
The Lewes Public Art Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, at Town Hall and via Zoom. The group will discuss the two existing public art projects at Canalfront Park and George HP Smith Park. They will also talk about a mosaic project for Canalfront and Smith parks. Committee members will discuss a proposal for an artistic bike rack for Third Street, then start conversations about public art exhibits for 2022. Lewes Brewing Co. review takes place August 26
The Lewes Joint Development Ad Hoc Review Panel will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, at Town Hall and via Zoom. The group will review and perhaps make a recommendation on the Lewes Brewing Company’s site plan for Savannah Road near the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail intersection. Agave applies for Rt. 1 liquor license
Agave continues to progress towards completion of its new location at 19178 Coastal Highway, north of Rehoboth Beach. Most recently, the restaurant applied for a liquor license at the location. According to an opinion from the commissioner for the control of alcoholic beverages, Agave applied for a restaurant license to sell alcohol, sell alcohol on Sundays, have a terrace with shows, have external speakers and a system of paging. The ABCC is required to hold a hearing if it receives one or more documents containing at least 10 signatures from residents or owners located within one mile of the property. Protests must be received by Friday September 17th at the latest. Sussex P&Z meeting on August 26
The Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, at the County Administration Building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. The IR district will stagger the opening dates of schools
The Indian River School District will be implementing a phased opening for the 2021-2022 school year in September.
The first day of school for Kindergarten, Grades 6, 9 and Howard T. Ennis School (excluding Preschool) will be Tuesday, September 7th.
Students in classes 1 to 5, 7 to 8 and 10 to 12 will return to school on Wednesday September 8.
Preschool programs, including Project Village, TOTS and Howard T. Ennis, will begin on Monday, September 13.
The district will revert to a five-day in-person schedule for all students in 2021-2022. There are no plans to pursue a hybrid model, remotely / in person.
COVID-19 protocols regarding face coverings and social distancing will be communicated to parents before schools open.
