CLEAR WATER, FLA. – The Town of Clearwater is inviting the public to participate in a week-long citywide cleanup October 11-16. “The big cleaning” will be held in conjunction with the International Coastal Clean Up, with the support and funding of several partners including Ocean Allies, Keep Pinellas Beautiful, AMPLIFY Clearwater, Visit St. Pete / Clearwater and Opals Sands Resort.
The week leading up to October 16 will feature a series of small cleanups, organized by local businesses, civic groups and homeowner associations. Cleaning supplies will be provided to volunteers to help with these private events.
“The Big Cleanup” is the highlight of the week’s cleanup activities, and it will take place at Clearwater Beach and centralized locations in Clearwater from 8 am to 11 am on Saturday, October 16. The beaches will be divided into zones and other zones. to be cleaned up will include downtown Clearwater, parks, streets, neighborhoods, trails and private businesses in Clearwater.
“This is a huge effort,” said Sheridan Boyle, sustainability coordinator for the Town of Clearwater. “With so many places and opportunities to join together throughout the week, there is room for everyone to have an impact. We would be delighted to recruit 500 volunteers.
Anyone Can Volunteer, and community groups are welcome. Site Captains will be stationed at cleanup sites, and they will arrange for volunteer signings, distribute supplies, pick up trash, and collect counts of the types and amounts of trash removed from each location. Service hours will be validated by the on-site manager, if service forms are provided by student volunteers
“It’s an exciting time in Clearwater,” said Samantha Moullet, City of Clearwater Volunteer Specialist. “We’ve never seen such a cleanup effort before. Amazing things can happen when an entire community comes together and engages to be part of the solution. “
“Whether you volunteer for 15 minutes or a few hours, every garbage you pick up makes a difference,” Moullet said.
